Bucksport, Maine is located on the Penobscot River, on US Route 1 and is home to approximately 5,000 people. A major feature of the town is the downtown waterfront area, which draws people from miles around to enjoy both its recreational and business offerings.[1]
Bucksport has had a long history with the paper-making industry, but a new era has begun now the paper is no longer made here. With the closing of one door, many more are now opening with opportunities for a bright and prosperous future.[1]
Bucksport has its own mile-long waterfront walkway. Here you will experience a beautiful bay view unlike any other in the world. The walkway is also a great place to have a picnic. Public restrooms and information kiosks are conveniently located near the Veteran’s Memorial and at the town dock, both of which are next to the walkway.[1] Across the river you can see views of Prospect, Maine, Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory the first bridge observation tower in the United States and the tallest public bridge observatory in the world. Verona Island, Maine is a town located on an island of the same name in the Penobscot River in Hancock County. The population was 544 at the 2010 census.[2]
